Wednesday 28 April 2010 HM The Queen unveiled a plaque at the official opening of Welshpool Livestock Market.
Briarwood Products were represented by Tony Fannon who met both the Queen and Prince Phillip during their tour of one of Europe’s largest livestock markets where over 10,000m2 of fully compressed EUROSIX fibre cement roof sheeting was used.
During the visit HM The Queen and HRH Prince Phillip met with local farmers, Welshpool Livestock Market staff and representatives from all companies who were involved with the project.
Tony Fannon had an opportunity to talk briefly with the Prince who was impressed with the scale of the livestock and auction area. In answer to a question from the Duke of Edinburgh concerning Briarwood’s role in the Welshpool project, Tony Fannon was able to confirm that due to the demands of such a large livestock building, careful planning and specific attention to ventilation detail was required.
Tony also explained that another important factor was the ability for Briarwood to supply such a large quantity of materials at short notice during the contract which was made possible due to Briarwood’s own stock holding of over £1.5m worth of EUROSIX fibre cement roof products.
Welshpool Livestock Market has been operating since October 2009 and the roof specification included a run of over 2,000 ft of EUROSIX open protected ridge which has proved to be a great success.
The Royal couple left the livestock market to attend a reception and luncheon at a hotel in Welshpool town centre and everyone involved in the Royal visit agreed that it had been an honour to host such an event.
